A minor eruption occurred at Black Diamond Pool in Yellowstone National Park’s Biscuit Basin last week.

Captured by a USGS webcam, the eruption is part of ongoing hydrothermal activity following a major explosion at the site in July 2024.

Since that event, smaller eruptions have occurred, though few were seen due to area closures.

Experts say hydrothermal explosions like this are typical in Yellowstone, often happening one to several times per year.
