A new timelapse video captures dramatic lava fountaining during Episode 24 of Kīlauea’s ongoing summit eruption.
The main fountain surged from the north vent, reaching heights over 300 meters (1,000 feet) and spilling lava southwest toward closed areas of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
The footage, released by the U.S. Geological Survey, highlights the eruption’s growing intensity.
