Evan Watts embarked on the mission of rating as many pubs and pints as he could, all to try and find that golden gem.
This beer lover has traveled to 200 pubs to rate over 200 different types of pints.
The Carpenter travelled to over 50 cities during his journey, spanning over 15 countries and alongside his partner, he tallied up the best pints you can buy and where to buy them.
Evan, from Leicestershire, UK, said: “I have been to way too many pubs to count but for purely pub rating it is just shy of 200!
“The same with the pints it’s too many to count but I have tried beers from all around the globe!
“I found that they can all differ so much.
“People always say all beer tastes the same but that’s because they either haven’t tried many and only in the uk or they just don’t like the taste.”
He added: “I LOVE pubs for many reasons! I love banter, football, beers, the people, being with mates, food and something a lot I don’t think about but the history.
“Pubs have been around longer than me and you.
“It’s very expensive but the way I saw it is I’m probably going to have that pint or go to the pub anyway might as well show everyone.
“My Mrs thinks it’s funny, she likes it when I get a free pint and give it to her.”
Evan had always been a big fan of having a pint down the local pub, with his friends and girlfriend and he loves the culture, whether that’s the football, banter or of course, the beer.
After lockdown, he eagerly awaited the return to the pubs, and with his friends and partner, he decided to make some fun videos rating the different pints in the pubs that he visited.
That was the turning point which started Evan’s journey and ever since making that first video, his goal has been to find the greatest pub in the world and taste the finest pint a person could buy.
With his partner by his side, he’s travelled all over the country, trying to find that one pub that they’ll never forget and for Evan, there is no better feeling than tasting a nice pint.
Eventually, he decided that his pub rating journey would take him outside of England, and they decided to travel around the world to find the best pub and pint on the planet.
Now, they have visited over 15 countries in total, tasting pints in over 50 different cities, from South America, to Europe, to South Asia – they’ve been to the best.
Most important of all, Evan said that he wore a special football top dedicated to his best friend, who unfortunately passed away, to every country he visited, so he can have a drink with his buddy again.
Evan said: “My long term aim of ratemypub is – to visit all the best pubs- every number 1 pub in each country- travel the world visiting pubs- own my own pub and land so I can have the best beer garden known to man.
“Not just in the UK but in south east Asia, Europe and Central America. I’m looking for a new ‘golden gem’ for the 200 special.
“For me a beer can change even if it’s just from a bottle or can but the best type of beer – in the majority of cases is a draft pint!”
He added: “Outside of England they only get better! Whether it’s a cheap pint in Colombia brewed by the BBC or it’s a Staropramen Granat straight from the source in Prague at their factory tour.
“I always have my go-to beers and drinks but I like to try new ones because there may be something better you just haven’t tried yet and I don’t really like IPA but you find that one beer that changes the game.
“I love going to them and showing anyone that cares.”
Evan recalled his fond memories of going to the pub with family as a kid and playing football in the beer garden with my best friend.
He said: “They are some of the best memories. I will cherish them forever.
“Sadly he has passed and that makes those memories that little bit more special. I still go to that pub to this day and always think about him.”
After Covid hit, Evan and his partner went to the pub and decided to make a fun TikTok with music of them on holiday in a pub having a pint.
Evan explained “It got some likes and comments to do another or try a beer. I was nervous to talk on camera – I did three takes at the start.
“Then I posted a drink review and just kept getting them.
“I then thought I could do the pub reviews again and slowly stopped the music and talking in the reviews.
“Wherever I go if it’s with friends, family or my Mrs, at some point we go to a pub to have food or a drink so why not record it and show everyone what a great pub.
“My partner also likes that she gets to travel, a few cheeky pints and be a camerawomen.”
“Most of all she is quite partial to a pint so when we find a beauty like Staropramen unfiltered on tap in a random restaurant in Budapest, we both have the same feeling at that moment and it’s such a laugh!”
