This couple found out they were finally having the first girl in the family in nearly 130 years.

Jillian Lamb and her husband Jonathan, from Vernon, Connecticut, USA, found out they were pregnant with their second child and presumed it was going to be a boy.

Jonathan’s family has a long history of only birthing boys as the last girl born into their family was not since 1896.

Jillian said: “The last girl born into the family was in the late 1800s and she was the sister to my husband’s great-grandfather.

“From there all the babies born were sons, until us with our daughter!”

The couple met on the dating app Tinder five years ago and got married in 2022.

With the pair’s first child, their suspicions came true and after they had a traditional balloon-popping gender reveal, the confetti came out blue.

Within Jonathan’s family tree, he is one of three boys, his father was one of four boys, his grandfather was an only child, and his brothers all have sons.

The last girl born into the family was in 1896 by his great-great grandparents and every other woman since has married into the family.

For Jillian, her family tree is extremely mixed with most of her cousins having both a boy and a girl, and it seems she is following suit.

With Jillian’s current pregnancy, they held out hope for a girl, but they knew the likelihood was low.

After getting a candle warmer for Christmas and being inspired by blue or pink clothes unboxing reveals, Jillian thought of the perfect way to reveal their baby’s gender.

She visited the store, picked up a blue and a pink candle and asked the cashier to look at her results and discreetly wrap up the colour of the candle depending on the gender.

With no differing symptoms from her first pregnancy, Jillian had no idea that she was going to unwrap a pink candle and have the first girl in her husband’s family – breaking the boy cycle.

Jonathan admitted that he never thought he was going to have a daughter or that his parents would have a granddaughter.

The soon-to-be girl’s dad cannot wait to meet his daughter and told how she will be wrapped around his little finger.

The parents couldn’t hold back their excitement and admitted that they now had the perfect opportunity to honour their great-grandmother’s name.

Jillian and Jonathan decided to reveal the surprising news to their family during their games day on New Year’s Day.

Despite being engrossed in the games, the family finally clicked on Jillian’s pink-themed clues and were left in shock over the groundbreaking news.

The couple were overjoyed with the news of their baby girl and after a journey with fertility treatments to get pregnant, they were just happy to have a healthy baby.

Jillian said: “I got a candle warmer for Christmas and wanted to do something special for our intimate gender reveal.

“I had seen ideas with getting blue or pink clothes or toys and thought having a unique scent to go with our reveal would be meaningful!

“The scents themselves did not have any special meaning, until now!”

She added: “It’s assumed in my husband’s family to have boys so we always assumed we were having a boy. So we were wholly surprised.

“I had no indication it was a girl.

“Our first thought was that we broke the cycle!

“We’re gonna be bringing a little baby girl into our family.”

Jonathan added: “It’s more than exciting saying, ‘I’m gonna have a daughter’.

“I never thought I’d be able to say that my side of the family is gonna have a granddaughter.

“It was New Year’s Day, we were having the family over to have a games day and enjoy the New Year and Jillian had a good idea.”

Jillian explained: “I had the candle and I was like, ‘Look at this candle, what colour is it?’

“My mother-in-law thought we were playing a colour game so she was thinking of all these clever names for pink.

“I was like ‘it’s pink, it’s pink! Not blue!’

“She eventually just goes, ‘Oh, really?’

“She was just like, ‘no way’, the kind of super smiling when you’re almost in tears and just super happy.

“A baby is a blessing no matter what so we were all just so happy!”
