Many thrill-seekers dream of scaling the heights of Mount Kilimanjaro and this travel blogger set herself the gruelling challenge of reaching the peak within seven days.
Lydia Weigl, 29, completed the incredible challenge, hiking over 35.4 miles (Kilometres) and over 17,000ft of elevation gain.
The travel vlogger from Cincinnati, Ohio, USA described the week as a “special experience and hard to put into words.”
Mount Kilimanjaro located in Tanzania, is known as the highest mountain in Africa and has three volcanic cones.
Many people try and fail to reach the famous peak but with the help of a team including chefs, porters and guides, Lydia managed to reach the top before the week was over.
After reaching the peak Lydia was on top of the world and said: “The thing that makes this trek challenging is the high altitude. The peak is at 19,341 feet/ 5,895 feet and it’s common to experience altitude sickness.
“We had a few minor symptoms due to the high altitude but nothing major. “One of the coolest parts was seeing such a change of landscapes as we climbed up and back down. “We hiked through the rainforest to the alpine zone and saw monkeys, glaciers, waterfalls, cloud inversions and so much more. It was so beautiful!
“The guides were incredible; the food was amazing, and we couldn’t have asked for better!”
