This adventurous British travel enthusiast decided to take on the unusual challenge of eating a 50-year-old soup!
Warren Robie was travelling around Bangkok, Thailand when he came across a restaurant that serves an unusual meal—50-year-old soup.
Incredibly, he says that the beef-flavoured soup, which cost just £2.50, was one of the best he’s tried!
However, Warren’s daring food adventures didn’t stop there!

During his time in Thailand, he also took on the challenge of eating a variety of insects, including scorpions, crickets, grasshoppers, spiders, and coconut worms, as well as the infamous durian fruit.
Warren, from Liverpool, UK, said: “I started backpacking Asia at the beginning of 2023, and since I returned home from that trip, I had the biggest travel bug!
“I couldn’t sit still at home with the constant itch I had to return to travelling.
“I had to travel 30 minutes outside the city centre of Bangkok to find this restaurant.”

Despite the dish being so unique, Warren explained how there were not many tourists at all.
He said: “When I arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a massive witch-like barrel of just pure brown soup full of meat.
“The edges of the barrel were all crusty, and you could tell it’s been brewing for years.
“To be honest, I wanted to try it just to say I’ve tried 50-year-old soup haha. No special reason apart from that.”

The food fanatic added: “It was a beef-flavoured noodle soup with pieces of meat that would just melt in your mouth (the soup and the meat pieces were the best part).
“It also had noodles in it, and you could choose between thin or thick noodles (I chose thick).
“There were also pork pieces and meatballs, but these weren’t that nice.“

Posting his experiences online, Warren admitted that he received lots of praise from his audience for trying local foods like this and indulging in their culture.
He said: “I also got a lot of people saying they would never have the balls to try it, as well as other strange foods I try.
“The actual liquid of the soup was fit. I’d even say the best beef soup I’ve had.
“The beef pieces were also really good. Other bits brought the overall rating down but I probably won’t eat again.”

Warren also challenged himself to eat an array of insects and other exotic foods while in Bangkok.
Warren added: “I was thinking I’m in my own version of a bush tucker trial from ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.’
” I was thinking it’s all mind over matter, and I can do it.
“I was most hesitant about eating scorpion, that’s why I saved this one until last.”

The travel creator explained that the spider was the worst due to the body and legs hanging out of his mouth.
He was pleasantly surprised by the grasshopper as it was small and crunchy, and the flavour the locals put on it made it appetising
Warren admitted that he wouldn’t do it again but it’s his job to explore and entertain and he stuck to his word.
