After being left on the streets of China at an orphanage, watch this woman reveal how her life changed forever when she was adopted by a British couple.
Mia McGrath was adopted and brought to the UK by a couple who struggled to conceive naturally and opted against doing IVF.
During the period of time Mia was born, China had a one child policy, and with males being the preferred gender – it left Mia’s hopes of having a family hanging in the balance.
However, the abandoned child was eventually adopted at 18-months-old.
Prior to being adopted, the 24-year-old was fostered for a year and a half which allowed Mia to adjust to what life with a new family would feel like.
Residing in England’s capital, London, the UK is all Mia has ever really known as she stated she doesn’t ‘feel Chinese’ and has adapted to ‘British values’.
Despite growing up in the UK, Mia’s parents ensured that she was still incorporated into sections of Chinese culture as she was encouraged to socialise with people of the same ethnicity and learn Mandarin.
