Skygazers are in for a rare treat this week as a giant ‘X’ and ‘V’ will briefly appear on the moon’s surface. Known as the Lunar X and Lunar V, these striking patterns are created by the way sunlight hits certain craters, forming an incredible optical illusion. The event will be visible for just four hours on Thursday, March 6, starting at 11 PM GMT (6 PM EST). While the ‘X’ may be faint to the naked eye, a pair of binoculars or a small telescope will give the best view.

Just last week NASA’s Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost spacecraft recently captured stunning footage of the moon during its Mission 1 flight.
