After 132 years, the long-lost wreck of the Western Reserve has been found at the bottom of Lake Superior. Once considered one of the safest and fastest ships on the Great Lakes, the steel steamer tragically sank in a fierce 1892 storm, taking 27 lives—including the ship’s owner, Captain Peter G. Minch, and his family. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society made the historic discovery using sonar and ROV technology, revealing the vessel split in two.
