Scientists warn that the likelihood of an eruption at Alaska’s Mount Spurr has risen, with experts monitoring increased seismic activity and gas emissions. The 11,000-foot volcano, located just 81 miles from Anchorage, has been exhibiting signs of unrest since April 2024. Officials have raised emergency preparedness levels as they anticipate an explosive eruption in the coming weeks or months. If Mount Spurr erupts, it could send ash plumes 50,000 feet into the air, disrupt air travel, and blanket Anchorage in volcanic dust.

In this video we see Icelandic drone pilot Benjamín Heimisson who has spent years capturing nature’s most breathtaking and dangerous landscapes.

His high-risk flights have earned him stunning close-up footage of volcanic eruptions much like what we could expect to see from Mount Spurr.
