For many European holiday makers, Moldova has often remained an overlooked destination.
However, one traveller decided to make it the focus of a unique birthday adventure, with an experience that was as affordable as it was memorable.
Harry Tully from Stowmarket, Suffolk, UK, was searching for something different for this year’s celebrations and wanted to steer clear of the typical British holiday to countries such as Spain.
He said: “I looked at going (to Moldova) and saw you could take an old Soviet-style sleeper train from Romania to Moldova.
“I’d never been on a sleeper train before, so I thought it could make quite the birthday adventure!”
Moldova, dubbed one of Europe’s least-visited countries, turned out to be a surprising gem.
The traveller found that he could visit not just one, but two countries, three if you count Transnistria, without breaking the bank.
Having already visited over half of Europe, Harry ranked Moldova near the top of his list.
He told how the calmer setting and fantastic deals on food and drink were a pleasant surprise, making the country more memorable than others.
