Tragedy struck in upstate New York when a small plane carrying six people — including two doctors and members of the Groff family — crashed en route to a holiday celebration.

The aircraft plunged into a muddy field in Copake after taking off from Westchester County Airport.

Air traffic control lost contact after the pilot missed an approach, and no distress call was made despite urgent altitude warnings.

Investigators from the NTSB are now working to determine what caused the deadly crash.
