A man shared collectible Pokémon cards – beloved worldwide for their nostalgic value and detailed artwork – with members of the Maasai tribe, capturing their delighted reactions as they opened the packs for the very first time.

Josiah Campbell, from London, UK, was visiting East Africa when he spontaneously gifted the beautifully illustrated cards to the tribe in Zanzibar.

A lifelong fan, Josiah wanted to share the childhood magic of Pokémon with people experiencing it for the first time.

The tribe carefully examined each card’s vibrant design—miniature prints that have fascinated fans across generations – pointing out their favourites and trading among themselves.

Seeing their joy, Josiah said it felt like rediscovering the franchise through fresh eyes.

Josiah said: “I introduced Pokémon cards to the Maasai tribe – they loved it.

“We were visiting a school in Kenya as my partner regularly donates to it and decided to extend our trip to explore Tanzania. We found the Maasai tribe in Zanzibar.

“It’s rare to see people discovering Pokémon for the first time, you can see the genuine joy in their faces.”

He added: “I’ve been into Pokémon ever since I can remember. I’m a late ’90s kid, it just stuck with me all these years.

“This moment was completely unplanned, we found the Maasai tribe in Zanzibar.

“My favourite Pokémon is Infernape, but recently Ceruledge has taken me in with its aura.”
