Air traffic controllers at New York Airport lost communication with planes, sparking widespread delays and cancellations.

The incident, which led to multiple controllers going on trauma leave, is part of ongoing staffing and equipment issues at Newark Liberty International airport, one of New York’s busiest hubs.

Over 150 flights were canceled on Monday alone, and United Airlines has cut 35 flights daily due to the airport’s inability to manage air traffic.

The Federal Aviation Administration acknowledges the outdated air traffic control system is contributing to the chaos, with the union highlighting the severe impact on its workforce.
