A northern Caiman lizard named Phillip has finally returned to Houston Zoo after months of treatment for jaw cancer.

His recovery followed surgery to remove the affected part of his jaw and extensive care from zoo veterinarians and outside specialists.

The cancer was first detected last spring after zookeepers noticed swelling on his face.

Phillip is now cancer-free and back with his companion, George.

His return marks a heartwarming milestone for the zoo and a symbol of successful collaborative animal care.
