A 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck east-central Illinois late last night, with the epicenter near Lerna and Neoga, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake, which occurred at a depth of 5.5 miles, was felt by more than two dozen people, with reports coming from as far north as Urbana and as far south as Mount Vernon.
At least one report of shaking came from Will County, near Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie.
While Illinois isn’t known for frequent major quakes, it sits near two significant seismic zones, making occasional tremors possible.
