A tech glitch caused a wildfire evacuation alert to be mistakenly sent to millions across Los Angeles County, sparking panic amid the January wildfire devastation.
The alert was intended only for residents near the Kenneth Fire in the San Fernando Valley but instead reached the entire county of 10 million people.
A congressional report blamed the error on software issues with the third-party vendor Genasys, which failed to properly save geographic targeting data.
Officials have since launched an independent review of the emergency alert system and evacuation procedures.
