A woman in an age-gap relationship has been forced to deal with online trolls who have accused her of being a gold digger after she revealed how the pair met.
Gigi, who had an age gap of 32 years with her boyfriend, Tim, told how sharing some fun videos of her relationship to TikTok quickly turned into a spiral of hateful comments about her romance.
Gigi, living in Bristol, UK, met her boyfriend when visiting David Lloyd gym and saw his car parked outside, which led to her leaving her number on the window.
The couple’s relationship had proved testing at times, as they’ve were hit with backlash from friends and online trolls—but Gigi insisted she was ‘thick skinned’ with nothing changing how she felt about Tim.
She said: “Love doesn’t know maths, doesn’t know any age, doesn’t know anything until it happens.
“People see each other as they are and you never know how you’re going to meet that person.
“I kind of feel like most of the judgments, they come from jealousy, and 80% of the comments on my videos, they all come from loser men who are probably just jealous.
“It doesn’t matter how we met at the end of the day it was meant to happen, I took a chance and wrote my number and I think sometimes is good to be spontaneous, people meet in different ways and what happens afterwards is more important.”
Gigi told how she met the new man in her life on a trip to the gym with her friend and spotted his bright yellow sports car parked outside.
Joking with her friend as they tried to guess who the car belonged to, she finally left her number on the window, desperate to find out who would be behind the wheel.
To her surprise, she soon got a text from the mystery man who explained he was single but was 62.
However, the age gap was the least of her worries, and the pair soon got chatting before heading off on their first date.
Gigi admitted that she quickly started developing feelings for Tim, explaining that despite the age gap, it always felt like a normal relationship to her.
However, it wasn’t long before they had to battle with negative comments both online and from people around them as people started to make jokes about their age gap.
Gigi was even accused of going after Tim’s money or Tim being a ‘sugar daddy’ which Gigi stressed was not the case.
She said: “We met by the swimming pool and from the moment I met him, I just like really liked him.
“He was just so fit, and he was so tan, his body is amazing! I could not believe when he said he was 61 at the time.
“So, the next day was Saturday, and we went on a date. He picked me up in the McLaren and off we went.
“We spent all day on that Saturday together. And that’s been it since then.”
Gigi explained:”Everybody accused me of being a gold digger, saying that I saw the McLaren and was just being a gold digger, but it was just a funny moment with my friend.
“There’s been no moments that I felt he’s too old. It was never an awkward situation.
“It was always a proper relationship, just a normal relationship and better than any relationship I ever had in the past.
“He never gets tired and he’s always happy, always positive and that was all the things that made him an inspiration for me.”
However when their love story went viral on TikTok, the couple received lots of hate comments and judgments, which was hurtful for Gigi.
She added: “I wish that I could change that perspective and show that age gap love works, and it exists.
“I feel like I’m quite strong because I’ve always been judged for many reasons.
“I have become very strong and kind of resilient to all these hate comments, I’m more hurt by seeing it hurt my partner.
“But if you see someone happy and you don’t have anything nice to say, just don’t say anything.
“If you don’t like me, just block me. You don’t have to watch it.”
