A massive volcano in Alaska is showing alarming signs of an imminent eruption, with over 55 earthquakes shaking Mount Spurr in just one week.

Experts say the quakes are caused by rising magma cracking the rock beneath the surface, a clear signal that an eruption could be near.

The city of Anchorage, home to more than 300,000 people just 80 miles away, is scrambling to prepare as emergency plans urge residents to stock up on essentials.

Stores are seeing a run on N95 masks, pet supplies, and water as locals brace for thick ash clouds like those that shut down the city during Mount Spurr’s last eruption in 1992.

Though Anchorage isn’t in the direct blast zone, it could be blanketed in volcanic ash, which poses serious health risks and could disrupt daily life for weeks.
