Chicago woke up to code red air quality on Thursday as smoke from Canadian wildfires blanketed the city, turning the skyline a hazy orange.
Resident, Em Klossy, captured the hazy skies on her morning run as Chicago had the reported second-worst air quality among major global cities, with an AQI reading of 160.
Officials issued an air pollution ‘action day,’ urging residents to stay indoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
The lingering wildfire smoke also forced vulnerable groups, like children and the elderly, to take extra precautions as visibility dropped and pollution levels soared across the city.
