This fin-tastic footage shows the moment a group of kayakers experienced a close encounter with a couple of orca whales. Whilst leading a guided tour of the New Zealand coast, this group found themselves surrounded by a pod of inquisitive orcas who circled the boats. The mammals were out hunting down sting ray for their dinner when they came across the kayaks and decided to say hello to those paddling. The crowd began to scream with excitement at the once in a lifetime sighting. Emma Ward, 25, from Kaikōura Peninsula, New Zealand shot the incredible footage whilst guiding a group with Kaikōura Kayaks, a kayaking tour service in the area. She said: “As you can tell, lots of omg’s! The feeling of being so close to such incredible and intelligent and big marine mammals was indescribable. “It made me emotional! The pod was very inquisitive and I felt so lucky to be there in the moment. “While I was filming, I was watching the two orca on the left of my kayak, one with the sting ray in its mouth, turned to the right and saw the third one who swam under the kayak! “Right on the surface almost like it was waiting to say hello. They then surfaced again beside the kayaks and continued swimming away. Such a surreal experience!”
