Nissan has announced plans to close seven factories and lay off 20,000 workers globally in an effort to reduce costs.
The move will reduce the number of factories from 17 to 10, with the UK’s Sunderland plant, employing 6,000 people, awaiting its fate.
The company said the restructuring aims to create a more efficient and resilient business, amid rising costs and an uncertain global market.
Nissan also expressed concerns over the impact of U.S. tariffs on imported cars and UK electric vehicle policies, which could threaten jobs at its Sunderland plant.
