This devoted Manchester United fan was so confident that his team would get back to their winning ways that he challenged himself to abstain from cutting his hair until the Red Devils won five on the bounce.

Frank Ilett, 28, loved nothing more than to watch his team win and in a display of confidence, and for fun, he decided to set the challenge of not cutting his hair until the side win five games in a row, in all competitions.

The avid United fan since became surprised by how long it has taken the team to complete the challenge and worried that there was a chance he may have to wait until next year to get rid of his barnet.

Frank, from Oxford, UK, said: “It has definitely been more frustrating, when it feels like it’s getting closer.

“At the very least, it’s made watching games more funny than annoying and it’s been nice to receive messages from followers after a game, to say that they have been laughing at the games because they think of poor me!

“I think Ruben Amorim can be successful and maybe he’ll want to be the one to cut my hair once the challenge is over!”

Used to having very short hair, mostly being all shaved, Frank had to adapt to life with a completely different style.

Being over three months into the challenge, yet to see the Red Devils come close to five wins in a row, his hair became long and uncut.

He explained that his hair was the longest it had been and started becoming ‘awkward’ – especially with the ‘bed hair.’

Whilst it seems form isn’t looking great for Manchester United, Frank hopes that recently appointed boss, Ruben Amorim, can turn things around and even says that he would be up for the Portuguese manager being the one to finally cut his hair after once the challenge is complete.

Frank added that he was hopeful that Amorim’s team could complete the challenge during the run of Southampton, Brighton, Rangers, Fulham & FCSB (FC Steaua București) – which would take him up to day 117.

However, he was worried that if the five consecutive wins aren’t taken during the Reds’ favourable run, during the early part of the year, he may have to wait until next year.

Fortunately, Frank’s friends and family loved the challenge and thought it was hilarious, although he will surely be glad to see the day he can finally take a trip to the barbers.

He said: “I thought three games in a row seemed too likely and the challenge would end too soon, but I was obviously too over-confident in my team, as the best Manchester United have done since starting the challenge has been two wins in a row.

“I am currently reset back to 0 at the moment and going by the recent performances, it may well go on for a lot longer!

“That’s all it’s been about really, just having a bit of fun, trying not to take life too seriously and spreading that outlook to others!”

He added: “That awkward middle stage is going on for longer than I thought!

“Friends, Family and Followers have all been really supportive of the page/challenge.

“They have found it funny and usually the first thing family say to me recently, when they see me and my hair, is ‘United still aren’t doing well then?’

“For the last several years, I have kept it short (usually all shaved!) and this is already the longest it’s been.

“Amorim needs more time and to be given full control. It is clear that NO manager has been the sole issue at the club for some time now.

“The players need to step up and some need to be cleared out and replaced by players that are willing to do the basics like running back!”
