In a heartwarming surprise, a heartbroken mum was left overwhelmed with emotion after her daughter gifted her a build-a-bear containing a recording of her late grandmother’s voice.
Kelly Hibbitt, 44, from Ibstock, East Midlands, had been devastated by the loss of her beloved Grandma June. She had longed to hear her voice just one more time. That wish was unexpectedly fulfilled on her birthday, thanks to her daughter, Skye Hibbitt, 23.

Determined to bring comfort to her mum, Skye came up with a heartfelt idea after spotting it online. She found an old recording of her Gran’s voice and used it to create a build-a-bear with a button that, when pressed, played June’s familiar, soothing tones.
“Mum and Gran were incredibly close,” Skye shared. “They had a special bond—Mum was the favourite grandchild, always there for her. She used to visit daily, cook her meals, and help with her medication. Gran was like a mother to her.”

Skye spoke about how her gran’s battle with dementia had made her final years difficult, adding, “Gran ended up in hospital with a colostomy bag before she passed. It was hard on Mum, losing someone she was so close to.”
On her mum’s birthday, Skye presented the bear, hoping the sentimental gift would offer some solace. As Kelly pressed the button and heard her late Gran’s voice, she was overcome with emotion, shedding tears of both joy and sadness.

Skye added, “It was an emotional moment. I felt happy and sad at the same time. We all miss her so much, and I hope this brings Mum some comfort.”
This thoughtful gift has touched many hearts, highlighting the enduring bond between a mother and daughter and the powerful memory of a cherished loved one.
