A tragic helicopter crash in the Hudson River claimed the lives of six people, including the pilot and a family of Spanish tourists with three children.

The sightseeing helicopter broke apart midair and crashed upside down into the river between Manhattan and New Jersey.

Emergency crews responded quickly, with videos showing the helicopter mostly submerged and rescue teams working to reach the victims.

A crane was deployed to raise the sunken aircraft, while fire and police personnel blocked public access to the scene.

The flight, which lasted under 18 minutes, had flown along the Manhattan skyline and back toward the Statue of Liberty before the crash.

The crash is under investigation as authorities work to determine the cause of the accident.
