Meet the woman who found the love of her life in the most bizarre place – a prison!

A woman who spent a decade of her life locked behind bars has revealed how being in prison led her to discovering her ‘prison wife’.

Marci Marie Simmons’ relationship status unexpectedly changed during her time at an all-women’s prison located in Texas, USA, when she found the woman of her dreams.

Her newly established romance with Brittany Pokorski quickly escalated into a ‘a very committed relationship’ where they both referred to each other as ‘prison wives’.

The pair finally got the chance to make the title as wife official and got married shortly after leaving their prison lives behind them.

While they were both eager to tie the knot in the cells, they were unable to legally get married while in prison.

Despite the couple having an age gap of 14 years, it failed to stop their plans to take their relationship to the next stage when Marci married her prison wife.

However, this wasn’t the only relationship Marci had enjoyed during her ten-year prison spell as she recalled herself having ‘a few girlfriends’ – with only Brittany being the serious relationship.

Marci, from Weatherford, Texas, USA, told: “I spent ten years incarcerated in Texas prisons and during that decade I had a few girlfriends.

“My last girlfriends we ended up in a very committed relationship and we referred to each other as wife.

“I was her wife, and she was my wife and that’s kind of how they do it in women’s prisons when two women are in a very committed serious relationship.”

She added: “We call it wifying each other – it’s a prison thing for sure.

“You cannot legally marry your partner while you’re both incarcerated but when you get out to the free world, you can marry your prison wife.

“You can turn your prison wife into your real wife.”
