Chopsys Football Diary

This proud dad travels around the country with football-loving six-year-old daughter, visiting over 40 football grounds.

Sheffield United fan and father, Mick, has been watching the team play since he was a child and now his daughter, Chopsy, has followed in his footsteps.

Chopsy has visited 43 grounds whilst watching the team, nicknamed the Blades, play and has watched 125 games in the process – making her the youngest groundhopper in the country.

Mick, from Sheffield, UK, said: “If it had been football 20 years ago, when I started going, I probably wouldn’t even have dreamed of taking her away from such a young age.

“But in all of the 43 grounds that she’s been to, we’ve not seen one kind of tear up or kick off or anything like that.”

When Mick was just a boy, he used to love going to the football with his dad to watch his precious Sheffield United and that has continued until present day.

Unsurprisingly, Chopsy quickly followed in her dad’s footsteps and at just five months old, she went to her first game and from there, she never looked back.

Now, she has been to over 40 games and has watched over 120 games with her dad and grandad – and she has even made her way to some of the fiercest grounds in the country, such as Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Liverpool’s Anfield.

Mick says that Chopsy loves the singing, the atmosphere and the culture itself and apart from some naughty words, she sings along to them all.

She loves watching the football so much that when she was given the choice of joining in on her mum’s try-on wedding dress party or a Cardiff City away game, she chose the football!

Chopsy even has a small collection of Stone Island jackets which she wears to the games – which just makes her even more of a proper football fan.

Speaking to her dad, Chopsy said: “I absolutely love it! It’s my favourite thing to do.

“My favourite part is spending time with Dad and Grandad, singing with the fans, meeting the players and when we score and my dad lifts me up!”

Mick added: “I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that she enjoys, especially when she was coming at four, she didn’t really have a great idea of what was going on on the pitch.

“But I think now, as she’s got a little bit older, it’s turned into celebrating, singing, and being part of an atmosphere.

“She’s always having a sing-song, and she’s clever enough to miss out most of the naughty words when she’s singing.
