A new study has revealed the types of shots that most often beat football goalkeepers – and why they’re so hard to stop. Researchers from UPV/EHU, in collaboration with Spanish club SD Eibar, analysed over 2,200 shots from La Liga matches and found that first-touch strikes and deflected shots are the hardest for keepers to save. These fast-paced plays give goalkeepers little time to react or position themselves, leading to a higher goal rate.
