A pygmy hippopotamus named Hannah Shirley has officially broken records at 51, becoming the oldest of her kind in managed care.

Rescued from a backyard and now living her best life at San Diego Humane Society’s Ramona Wildlife Centre, Hannah enjoys daily back rubs, sprinkler showers, and plenty of treats.

Most pygmy hippos don’t live past 50, making her milestone a global record-breaker.

Staff say her playful spirit and resilience make her a true icon – and a heart-melting ambassador for her species.
