A NASA-led study has revealed that parts of California, including major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco, are sinking into the ocean.
Researchers found that land subsidence, combined with rising sea levels, will cause submersion to occur at a much faster rate than expected.
By 2050, sea levels could rise more than twice as much as previously predicted, with Los Angeles seeing over a foot of rise and San Francisco’s Bay Area up to 17 inches.
In San Rafael, even a foot of rise could flood entire neighborhoods.
