Las Vegas has shattered its rainfall record for May, logging 1.44 inches in just the first week – surpassing the previous monthly record set in 1969.
Typically one of the driest months, May has now become the wettest on record for the desert city after four consecutive days of rain.
Flash floods, hail warnings, and submerged vehicles have accompanied the downpours, causing disruption across the Las Vegas Strip.
The rain offers short-term relief to a region battling extreme drought, with nearly 88% of Clark County classified in severe drought and a quarter in exceptional drought.
While no immediate rainfall is forecast, meteorologists say more showers could still add to this historic month.
