Mount Etna erupted suddenly, sending massive plumes of ash into the sky and forcing tourists to flee down the mountainside.
Aurelien Pouzin captured the moment panicked tourists escaped as an enormous ash cloud loomed overhead.
Experts reported the eruption involved continuous explosions of increasing intensity throughout the night.
Volcanic tremors began around 10 p.m. on Sunday, peaking in the early hours beneath the crater zone.
