Experts warn that there is a 10–20% chance artificial intelligence could take over humanity.
In a recent interview, Geoffrey Hinton, the Nobel-winning “godfather of AI,” said AI might surpass human intelligence within five to twenty years, likening its development to raising a tiger cub that could one day kill you.
While AI could revolutionise medicine, education, and climate solutions, Hinton stresses the dangers of developing powerful systems without enough safety research.
He also criticised tech giants like Google and OpenAI for prioritising profit over regulation and ethics.
Hinton believes companies should dedicate far more resources to ensuring AI’s safe development before it’s too late.
